Youssouf Fofana is now stalling over a move to Nottingham Forest – with Chelsea potentially on his mind.

That is according to the Daily Mail’s Transfer Confidential email (sign-up link here).

So, what is the situation involving Chelsea and Youssouf Fofana? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, it was the Daily Star who originally claimed in May that Chelsea admire the France international.

The Daily Mail have now stated that Chelsea remain admirers of Fofana, and are interested in bringing him to Stamford Bridge – West Ham and Liverpool are also keen.

It is said that Nottingham Forest offered £30m for the Frenchman in recent days, although the 24-year-old and Monaco have left that bid on the table as the midfield maestro weighs up his options.

The Daily Mail do not specifically mention whether Chelsea’s interest in particular has caused Fofana to delay his response to Nottingham Forest.

However, it is stated that the Monaco No.19 is holding out for a better option than a move to the City Ground, so Chelsea are certainly a realistic destination along with Liverpool and West Ham.

Chelsea do not need Youssouf Fofana

In our view, Chelsea should save themselves £30m and ignore Fofana.

We simply cannot understand why Mauricio Pochettino would be looking at signing another central midfielder with just under two weeks remaining in the transfer window.

Chelsea have already signed two potentially elite midfield talents in Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, while already owning another exceptional footballer in Enzo Fernandez.

That is without mentioning the likes of Conor Gallagher, Lesley Ugochukwu, Andrey Santos and Cesare Casadei – the latter trio are all young talents who cannot have their pathway blocked.

If Chelsea go out and spend £30m on another central midfielder, it would be an utterly bizarre move when reinforcements are needed in the attacking department.
