Tottenham target Elye Wahi is now desperate to join Chelsea as soon as possible, after the Blues saw a bid rejected by Montpellier.

That is according to L’Equipe.

So, what is the latest on Chelsea target Elye Wahi? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well – as revealed by Montpellier President Laurent Nicollin on Midi Libre – Chelsea submitted a bid for the French wonderkid, but it was rejected.

Midi Libre added that Tottenham are now expected to send an offer as Spurs attempt to beat the Blues to Wahi’s signature.

However – according to L’Equipe – the Montpellier No.21 has already made up his mind.

The French news outlet believe Wahi wants a move to Chelsea finalised as soon as possible, and is itching to join the Blues.

L’Equipe add that Chelsea’s bid was worth €27.5m (£24m) – although the Ligue 1 outfit are holding out for a sum of €35m (£30m).

Montpellier remain open to negotiating with Chelsea, and the Blues are expected to return with an improved offer for Wahi, who scored 19 goals in Ligue 1 last season.

L’Equipe add that Atlético Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt are also keen to sign the 20-year-old, although his preference at this moment in time is Chelsea.

Elye Wahi is not even in Chelsea’s immediate plans

Strangely, Chelsea are spending a lot of time on Wahi despite their plans to send him out on loan immediately.

It was Fabrizio Romano who claimed that Chelsea intend to offload the France Under-21 international, potentially to Strasbourg, rather than keep him at Stamford Bridge for the 2023/24 campaign.

After Mauricio Pochettino lost Kai Havertz and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, that seems an odd decision.

Romelu Lukaku is also expected to leave, so Wahi would surely have a place to fight for in west London.

Nevertheless, be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Chelsea attempt to wrap up a deal for the prolific wonderkid.
