Ian Maatsen now looks to have found a home after leaving Chelsea for Borussia Dortmund earlier this month.

Dortmund signed Ian Maatsen from Chelsea on loan and the left-back is not ruling out staying at the German club.

His quotes were recently relayed by Sky Germany journalist Patrick Berger on X.

Maatsen’s impact at Dortmund has already been felt. He helped Edin Terzic’s side beat FC Koln 4-0 yesterday after providing an assist.

Chelsea captain Reece James took to Instagram after the match to express how happy he is for the 21-year-old right now.

Ian Maatsen not ruling out Borussia Dortmund stay

Maatsen is open to a permanent Chelsea exit in the summer and remaining at Dortmund.

On joining Terzic’s team permanently, the Dutch youngster said: “I’d love to come back in the summer. Why not? But we’ll see what the future brings.”

Borussia Dortmund could buy Ian Maatsen in the summer

If Dortmund want to purchase Maatsen at the end of his loan, the option will be there.

According to The Telegraph, the Netherlands U21 international signed a new contract with a £35m release clause just before he left Stamford Bridge and Chelsea are confident someone will trigger it.

At this rate, Dortmund are going to be that someone, but Maatsen performing well will also attract other suitors.

He is a young and versatile footballer with a lot of talent. Now showing that at Dortmund, it would be a surprise if he struggled to generate interest in the summer.

It is still early into his loan spell in Germany, but it is already starting to look like Chelsea may have made a mistake here, especially with Marc Cucurella unavailable and all of Ben Chilwell’s injuries. Mauricio Pochettino is now having to put a lot of trust in Levi Colwill, who is not even a natural left-back.
