Chelsea target Lautaro Martinez could be set to extend his stay at Inter Milan.

Lautaro Martinez, who’s now 26, is having a fantastic year so far. The striker’s scored 15 goals in 18 games across all competitions this season for Italian giants Inter.

Therefore, it’s no surprise to hear Chelsea linked with the Argentine frontman.

Chelsea interest

90min reports that Chelsea and Manchester United have held long-term interest in signing Martinez.

It is explained that the 26-year-old is ready to commit his future to Inter by signing a new contract at the San Siro, though.

The Express reported back in June that £60million-rated star Martinez was keen on the idea of joining suitors Chelsea and working under Mauricio Pochettino.

However, he stayed put in Milan and has been in destructive form ever since.

On top of these fresh contract claims, journalist Ben Jacobs recently claimed that Martinez would be out of reach for interested clubs. He reported via Simon Phillips’ Substack that Martinez is “unattainable” at Inter.

Chelsea need Lautaro Martinez alternative

It sounds like Inter’s star attacker is off the table. However, Chelsea need to search for different options to fix their No 9 issue.

Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja are two young forwards in the Blues squad vying to prove their quality and potential. But we think most fans would agree that the club needs to sign a proven high-profile frontman.

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Brentford’s Ivan Toney are two attractive names linked with Chelsea in the transfer rumour mill.
