£69m player doesn’t have a preferred club to join, Chelsea’s recruitment team want him

Sporting Lisbon defender Ousmane Diomande seems to be attracting a lot of interest from Chelsea and other clubs, but no one appears to have an advantage in the race for his signature.

Chelsea have been scouting Ousmane Diomande and he is well-liked by their recruitment team, according to FootballTransfers.

However, the same outlet has also claimed that the 20-year-old, who has a £69m release clause in his contract, does not have a specific club he wants to join or certain league he is keen to move to.

With Sporting wanting almost £70m for such a young defender, a deal does not look straightforward.

Journalist Ben Jacobs recently suggested, though, that the Ivorian is still a more attainable target than Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo.

Ousmane Diomande has no preference yet

It is good news for Chelsea that Diomande is basically keeping every option on the table.

With the Blues on a decline and about to miss out on Champions League qualification again — Mauricio Pochettino‘s men are currently ninth in the Premier League table — sometimes, you do worry that they could lose a target to another club in a better position than them.

That being said, even amid all of the turmoil at Stamford Bridge since Chelsea were taken over by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, they have still managed to land some big players.

The club were even able to beat Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool to Moises Caicedo’s signature.

Ultimately, then, you cannot rule out Chelsea winning the race for Diomande. The fact that he has no preferred destination yet should give them even more confidence if that is the central defender who they really want.

It certainly is going to be interesting to see where Diomande ends up, as the Ivory Coast international appears to be a man in-demand right now.
