Antonio Silva’s agent is reportedly doing everything in his power to get the Benfica defender a move to Chelsea this month.
Chelsea may have to pay Antonio Silva’s €100m (£86m) release clause to sign him in the January transfer window, according to El Nacional.
However, the same outlet claims that the 20-year-old’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is doing everything possible to close a deal.
The Blues already have the likes of Thiago Silva, Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile in their ranks. It would be a bit of a surprise if they decided to spend £86m on a new centre-back this month.
Having not been afraid to trigger Enzo Fernandez’s gigantic release clause when he was at Benfica, though, who knows?

Jorge Mendes working on Antonio Silva to Chelsea deal
What is less of a surprise is to hear that a super-agent like Mendes is trying to get his client a big-money move to the Premier League.
Such a transfer would likely see Mendes pocket a lot of cash, but again, it is just hard to see it happening this month.
In the summer, perhaps. Thiago Silva’s contract expires then and if the Brazilian does not renew, then Mauricio Pochettino may feel he needs a replacement.
We are obviously not at that stage yet, while Chelsea actually keeping hold of Thiago Silva for another year does not sound impossible.
The Brazil international is still performing at this level, currently making 4.2 clearances per game. It is the highest average in the Blues’ squad (WhoScored).
Honestly, Chelsea do not need to replace Thiago Silva until it is actually time to replace him, when the 39-year-old is starting to show that he is no longer in his 20s. That day is not today, though it appears some at Stamford Bridge have their doubts; otherwise, he would have been handed a new contract by now.
