Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is set to sign a new contract with a release clause after being linked to Chelsea.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Bruno Guimaraes is close to putting pen to paper on a fresh deal that will have a higher salary and a release clause set at around £100m.
Speaking about the new contract the 25-year-old is about to sign on his YouTube channel, the Italian journalist said: “New salary, longer contract, but there is a release clause into the contract of Bruno Guimaraes. We’re able to confirm that.
“The final fee is yet to be confirmed but, from what I’m hearing, the fee is going to be in the region of £100m. This is going to be the release clause into the contract of Bruno Guimaraes. Let’s see if it’s going to be a bit more than this or a bit less. We will see in the final days of [the] conversation, but there will be a release clause, 100%.”

Earlier this month, 90min reported that Chelsea were one club who made an enquiry about Guimaraes during the summer. However, Newcastle were not interested in selling their player.
While the Blues were unable to sign Guimaraes, they did manage to land Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to bolster their midfield.
One hundred million pound release clause
It is understandable that £100m could be the bare minimum Newcastle would let Guimaraes go for.
Caicedo and Declan Rice, two other quality Premier League midfielders, went for around the same price during the last transfer window.
Guimaraes has done really well in England since arriving from Lyon last year, with his manager Eddie Howe describing him as an “incredible talent”.

However, after signing Caicedo and Lavia, Chelsea probably do not need Guimaraes, especially if the Brazilian is going to cost £100m or possibly even more than that.
With that in mind, do not expect too much talk about Chelsea and Guimaraes in January. The Blues have revamped their midfield and other areas of their squad now look like they will be prioritised.
According to the Daily Mirror, they are already eyeing a move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney.
