Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel will have a €260million (£225.4m) transfer budget this summer, with Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho on their shortlist, according to Sport1.

The German news outlet claims that Tuchel will have plenty of freedom in the upcoming transfer market to reshape his team.

Blues owner Roman Abramovich has reportedly given the green light, with over €250m available for summer transfers.

The report mentioned Dortmund’s attacking duo, Haaland and Sancho, among Chelsea’s targets but added that it is unlikely that they will bid for both players.

Currently, the report added, Chelsea are more interested in the Norway international than the latter.

But as many would expect, Haaland reportedly comes with a bigger price tag than Sancho.

While the 20-year-old has a reported €75m (£65m) release clause which will be valid starting in June 2022, Dortmund are free to set their price this summer.

Sport1 claims that Dortmund will not entertain any offer below €120m (£104m) for Haaland.

This is similar to their asking price for Sancho last summer, although Dortmund have dropped their demand for the England international given the pandemic financial situation.

Interestingly, the bosses at Dortmund reportedly expect the winger to leave in the summer.

The fact that Chelsea recorded a £32.5m profit for the 2020 financial year (club’s official website), as well as UEFA’s decision to relax FFP rules due to the pandemic, puts them in a strong position in the transfer market.

And while many competitors are struggling to justify big money spendings, similar to last summer, this could be another opportunity for Chelsea to secure these top talents.

Haaland, in particular, is one of the most sought-after players in world football at the moment.

But even with Chelsea’s spending power, as the report suggests, they will still have to convince the player and his notorious agent, Mino Raiola, about their project.

The good news is that Chelsea have reportedly made some progress behind the scenes in their attempt to sign the Dortmund ace.
