Chelsea now hope to have Romeo Lavia signed within less than two days after completing a deal for Moises Caicedo.

That is according to Football London.

So, what is the latest on Romeo Lavia and Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, it seemed as if Chelsea initially wanted one of Caicedo or Lavia – however, the Blues appear to be keen on signing both.

Football London believe the Belgium international has told Liverpool he wants to join Chelsea, and those at Stamford Bridge are hopeful of finalising the deal within 36 hours.

Joe Shields – Director of Talent and Recruitment at Chelsea – was crucial in negotiations.

Football London believe the 36-year-old created a strong relationship with Lavia during his time working at Southampton, and his desperation to bring the 19-year-old to Chelsea has proven to be crucial.

It means Chelsea will now be replacing the likes of Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante with two of the best young midfielders in Europe.

While Lavia – nor Caicedo – have come cheaply for Chelsea, the Blues should get value for money given the fact they are just 19 and 21 years of age respectively.

Liverpool should have focused on Romeo Lavia deal as Chelsea pinch both him and Moises Caicedo

In our view, Liverpool should have just stuck to Lavia.

The Reds were bidding for the Belgium international – and were close to Southampton’s £50m asking price – before strangely deciding to bid £111m for Caicedo without even checking to see if the South American wanted the move.

As many close to the situation could have told you, the Ecuadorian did not want the move as he only ever wanted Chelsea, and a British record £115m move was swiftly sealed.

Football London believe that Liverpool’s decision to then go back to Lavia didn’t go down too well with the Belgian’s representatives – unsurprisingly.

Effectively, Liverpool have handled this situation in disastrous fashion, although their incompetence has helped Chelsea secure two incredible talents.

Be sure to keep an eye out for official confirmation of Lavia’s move to Stamford Bridge, as we expect the deal to be finalised shortly.
