Chelsea have become synonymous with loan deals in recent years, so it’s no surprise to hear that a wave of players are yet again plying their trade away from Stamford Bridge this season.
According to the official Blues website, there are 22 individuals who’ve left on loan to try experience first-team football elsewhere.
Here is a look at how the 22 players have fared since sealing moves away:
Nathan Baxter (Goalkeeper) – Hull City
London-born shot-stopper Baxter has worked his way up the football pyramid after previous spells out on loan in the National League, League Two and League One.
You can see the logic in sending the 22-year-old to the second tier, however, he’s currently sat on the bench.
He did make his Hull debut in a Carabao Cup defeat, so it looks like he’ll have to be patient waiting for his next opportunity.
Jamie Cumming (Goalkeeper) – Gillingham
Cumming, 21, is another English goalkeeper from the academy who’s very highly rated.
He’s played all five league matches so far for League One club Gillingham, conceding six goals during that time.
It’s a loan move that should be great for his development.

Karlo Ziger (Goalkeeper) – NK Rudar Velenje
20-year-old Ziger has moved abroad for his pursuit of senior minutes.
He’s joined Slovenian second-tier club NK Rudar Velenje and made his debut for them just before the international break in a 3-1 victory.
Ethan Ampadu (Defender) – Venezia
Ampadu has left the Bridge again for a second consecutive year on loan. The 20-year-old Welshman suffered relegation from the Premier League last year with Sheffield United and it looks like he’ll battling the drop again this campaign.
He’s joined Serie A club Venezia, who are back in the Italian top flight after promotion last year. His debut will come after the international break.

Juan Castillo (Defender) – Birmingham City
Castillo, 21, has been with Chelsea for five years without yet making a senior appearance.
The left-back has dropped down to the Championship and the bulk of his minutes has come in the League Cup so far rather than the league.
Jake Clarke-Salter (Defender) – Coventry City
Clarke-Salter spent last year on loan with Birmingham, but this year has moved to Midlands rivals Coventry.
Aged 23, it’s difficult to see him breaking into Tuchel’s plans despite two senior appearances for Chelsea.
He’s played in three out of four Championship games so far this season and it feels like he needs to this year to go well to earn himself a permanent move elsewhere.
Emerson Palmieri (Defender) – Lyon
Emerson was an important part of the Italy team that won Euro 2020 this summer, but there is no room for him in the Chelsea squad. Unfortunately, Marcos Alonso and Ben Chilwell are above him in the pecking order.
The 27-year-old left-back has joined French giants Lyon because he’s got massive talent and he’s started well in his opening two appearances for them in Ligue 1.
Levi Colwill (Defender) – Huddersfield Town
Aged 18, he’s an impressive centre-back that is already a regular for Championship outfit Huddersfield.
He looks a natural during his first taste of senior football, which is why he’s definitely someone that could be knocking on the first-team door sooner rather than later if his development continues at this rate.

Henry Lawrence (Defender) – AFC Wimbledon
Lawrence is an exciting full-back that has already made six appearances since his loan to League One outfit AFC Wimbledon.
The 19-year-old is an attack-minded right-back with pace and energy.
This looks like a great fit.
Ian Maatsen (Defender) – Coventry City
Maatsen joins fellow Chelsea loanee Clarke-Salter with a spell at Coventry.
He’s started very well as the left wing-back in a 3-5-2 system, so he’s definitely somebody that has found an ideal destination.
Matt Miazga (Defender) – Alaves
26-year-old centre-half Miazga is another who’s played for the Blues first-team in the past, but there is no chance he’ll be back.
He’s gone to Spain for the first time in his career with Alaves, who have lost their opening three La Liga matches. He’s played in just one of those games, though.
Baba Rahman (Defender) – Reading
Rahman is one of those players who you forget is still on the Chelsea books. He’s played 23 senior games since he arrived in 2015, but has now joined his fifth different loan club.
The 27-year-old Ghanian full-back’s debut should come after the internatonal break. In theory, he should do quite well in the Championship.

Dujon Sterling (Defender) – Blackpool
Sterling, 21, remained with Chelsea’s Under-23s last year, despite previous loan spells in the Football League.
The versatile defender completed a move to Blackpool just before the summer window shut and he should help improve a team currently sat 22nd in the Championship.
Tino Anjorin (Midfielder) – Lokomotiv Moscow
Anjorin was around the first-team group under Tuchel, which is why some are not happy he’s left the Bridge.
The exciting 19-year-old playmaker is heading to Russia after leaving this week.
Tiemoue Bakayoko (Midfielder) – AC Milan
Bakayoko is another Chelsea flop that just never showed any form since joining from Monaco back in 2017.
He’ll make his second debut at the San Siro after the internatonal break because he previously played for them on loan.

Thierno Ballo (Midfielder) – Rapid Vienna
Ballo, 19, will join up with his new loan club after the international fixtures.
The Austrian attacking midfielder showed his talent in the Blues Under-23s team last year with seven goals in 21 league matches, so this is a great next step for him.
Danny Drinkwater (Midfielder) – Reading
The ex-Leicester City title winner has been a total flop in West London, but he’s still on the club’s books and has departed on another loan.
This time the 31-year-old is back in England and it’ll be intriguing to see if he can rediscover any kind of form in the Championship.
Conor Gallagher (Midfielder) – Crystal Palace
Gallagher impressed during stages of his loan at West Brom last year, but immediately this season’s destination looks a better fit.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder scored twice away to West Ham before the internatonal break.
It looks like he’s going to get a chance to play a creative role for Patrick Vieira’s side.

Billy Gilmour (Midfielder) – Norwich City
Gilmour, 20, is arguably the one Blues loanee that fans are most expecting to be back in the first team at Stamford Bridge next season.
The Scottish playmaker has predictably forced his way into the starting line up given his quality, but it looks like being a tough season after three defeats from three in the Premier League.
Armando Broja (Forward) – Southampton
Chelsea striker Broja joined Premier League rivals Southampton for his first taste of the English top flight.
The 19-year-old scored twice in a Carabao Cup win against Newport County, so hopefully he can force his way into the league XI at St Mary’s.

Michy Batshuayi (Forward) – Besiktas
Bathsuayi, 27, will forever be remembered by Chelsea fans for scoring the goal that clinched the Premier League title back in the 2016/17 season.
The striker is now playing in Turkey and has failed to score in his opening two appearances for his new club.
It was a difficult 2020/21 campaign where he struggled for minutes out on loan at Crystal Palace.
Kenedy (Forward) – Flamengo
Kenedy has returned to his native Brazil to play with Flamengo, albeit he’s yet to make his debut for them.
The 25-year-old was superb in Spain last season by scoring eight goals and setting up six assists in 44 appearances for Granada.
