Chelsea are now looking a Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz as a potential transfer target this summer.
That is according to well-respected journalist Simon Phillips.
Florian Wirtz, who only turned 20 in May, has already played over 100 first-team games for German side Leverkusen.
The Germany international definitely has a lot of similarities with Blues star Kai Havertz, who also started out his senior career with Leverkusen.
Could he now follow Havertz’s same path by ending up in England?

Simon Phillips has explained on his Substack that Wirtz is “another name being looked at” by Chelsea this summer.
There is no indication yet regarding how strong the Blues interest is in the 20-year-old attacking midfielder, but he’s now a potential option for Mauricio Pochettino’s side in their search to bring more talent to Stamford Bridge.
Apparently, the Bundesliga rising star wouldn’t come cheap for any buying clubs.
Yet again, Phillips has provided another piece of intriguing transfer insight.
Wirtz did see last season interrupted through a serious injury, the first significant one of his career to date. However, he responded well and finished with four goals and eight assists in 25 appearances.

Wirtz definitely seems like a smart target for Chelsea, especially if we lose the likes of Havertz and Mason Mount this summer.
The attacking midfielder is still an extremely young player with a track record of scoring and assisting goals, so the sky looks like the limit for him.
Described as “very special” by Leverkusen’s Karim Bellarabi, Wirtz is a unique talent that looks destined for bigger things one way or another.
