Some of Europe’s top clubs are thought to be keen on signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in the next transfer window, including Chelsea.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Chelsea are very likely to make a move for Gordon ahead of the 2026/27 season.

While a switch to Chelsea would represent a step up for the forward, the club are unlikely to be in a position to offer him Champions League football.

Anthony Gordon to Chelsea doesn’t hinge on Champions League qualification

Whether the Blues are in Europe’s elite competition or not next term, it looks like Gordon joining them in the summer is very much a possibility.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea are keen on Gordon and a potential transfer will not be dependent on the club qualifying for the Champions League.

Rival interest from Bayern Munich and the player’s price tag could still make a transfer tricky, though.

The same outlet claims that Newcastle want around £80m for the 25-year-old. However, being a Premier League-proven player who scores goals, Gordon is probably worth that fee in this current market.

With Alejandro Garnacho’s future uncertain and Jamie Gittens having picked up some bad injuries this term, the left winger position could become a priority for the Club World Cup winners.

Despite only arriving at Stamford Bridge last summer, it is thought that Chelsea are already prepared to offload Garnacho after a disappointing campaign.

How Anthony Gordon terrorised Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea have seen what Gordon is capable of first-hand this season. The Englishman scored the winning goal in Newcastle’s 1-0 win at the Bridge last month.

He was a constant threat that day, registering three shots, which were all on target. Gordon also managed to complete the sole dribble he attempted, as per Sofascore.

Simply put, Chelsea could not handle the England international. Next season, maybe he will be terrorising defences on their behalf.
