Chelsea have confirmed a season-long loan spell for young striker Armando Broja, who will join Eredivisie side Vitesse Arnhem.

The 18-year-old made his senior debut under Frank Lampard when he came off the bench in the Premier League home fixture against Everton back in March.

He scored 20 goals at academy level this season and was one of the youngsters who trained with the first-team after the lock-down period.

The official statement from the club said: “Armando Broja has today joined Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem for the duration of the 2020/21 season.

“The forward signed his first professional contract with Chelsea in January and has been part of the youth ranks since his the age of eight.”

Broja is following in the footsteps of several Chelsea players who had loan spells at Vitesse including Mason Mount, Matt Miazga and Lewis Baker.

The Albania U21 star has previously hinted at the loan move on his Instagram account, which suggested that he has already had a flight to the Netherlands.

Chelsea fans will certainly hope that the teenager can replicate the successful season Mount had two years ago.

At the age of 19, the Chelsea midfielder had an outstanding record of 14 goals and nine assists from 32 appearances (25 starts) in the Dutch top division.

Unsurprisingly, he was named in the Eredivisie’s team of the season in 2017/18 and became the third Chelsea loanee to be awarded Vitesse’s Player of the Year after Slobodan Rajkovic (2010-11) and Christian Atsu (2013/14).
