Arsenal are now exploring a deal to sign Chelsea target David Raya – after Thomas Tuchel failed with a move to bring the Brentford No.1 to Bayern Munich.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano and The Athletic.

So, what is the latest on Chelsea target David Raya? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well – according to Ben Jacobs – Chelsea have held talks about a move for the Spain international this summer.

Raya is not currently being heavily pursued by Chelsea, although with doubts over Kepa Arrizabalaga, the Blues have been keeping an eye on the Brentford glovesman.

Now – however – Chelsea could lose out to Arsenal.

The Athletic believe Mikel Arteta and Edu have began to explore a deal for Raya – who has a £40m price tag – as the Gunners look to find competition for Aaron Ramsdale at the Emirates Stadium.

Brentford’s Spanish shot-stopper is believed to favour a move to Arsenal over any other side, as he would reunite with his old goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana in north London.

According to Romano, Bayern Munich’s bid for Raya was an initial season-long loan with an option to buy next summer, something Brentford, nor the goalkeeper himself, were keen to explore.

David Raya update could spark Chelsea into life

Since Todd Boehly arrived at Chelsea, the Blues have often been quite reactionary in the market.

The £88.5m signing of Mykhailo Mudryk seemed to be born out of the fact Arsenal were interested, and more recently, Chelsea decided to make an offer for Romeo Lavia just hours after Liverpool submitted a £37m bid.

In that respect, Arsenal’s interest in Raya could wake Chelsea up – Pochettino could certainly do with a new goalkeeper after losing Edouard Mendy to Al Ahli.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as anything could happen.
