Chelsea are yet to make contact with Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni over a potential move to Stamford Bridge.

Alessandro Bastoni has been linked with a switch to Mauricio Pochettino’s side, but Fabrizio Romano has described these rumours as “quite premature” in his Substack column and has said that he is not aware of any talks to sign the centre-back taking place.

“Bastoni recently signed [a] new deal at Inter, and as far as I’m aware there’s nothing else happening at this stage,” the Italian journalist stated.

Chelsea signed Axel Disasi from AS Monaco in the summer, adding the Frenchman to a squad that already had Thiago Silva, Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Trevoh Chalobah.

However, that has not stopped Bastoni from being linked to Chelsea.

So according to Romano, Chelsea have not spoken to Bastoni about a move to west London, which is not the biggest shock.

Perhaps the Blues are scouting centre-backs right now or have a list of potential targets in case they need to act. But that is the thing, there is just not a need to actually act at this moment in time, hence why the above is not a surprise.

Again, Pochettino has options in central defence, so that area of the squad is not a concern for the Argentine at present.

Instead, Pochettino and his bosses will probably be looking further up the pitch. Chelsea can certainly improve there.

Right now, the team does not have a prolific No.9. When he returns from injury, Christopher Nkunku should be able to add more goals to this Chelsea side.

Back in the 2021/22 season, the France international managed to score 35 times for RB Leipzig. Even so, he is not a natural striker and is probably at his best when playing off or just behind another forward.

Addressing their No.9 issue, then, is likely to take precedence over everything else when the transfer window reopens.
