Chelsea have done more groundwork than Arsenal in the race to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney.
That is according to journalist Simon Phillips.
On his Substack Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, Phillips recently claimed that Arsenal, “as of now”, have not done as much as Chelsea have when it comes to laying down the groundwork to sign Ivan Toney.

Last month, the Evening Standard reported that Chelsea and Arsenal are both weighing up January moves for the 27-year-old.
According to the same outlet, he could cost his next club £80m.
Chelsea desperately trying to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford
Chelsea seem really keen on bringing Toney to Stamford Bridge based on what has been said on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea. Why? Well the Blues were poor in front of goal at the start of the season.
In games against Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Aston Villa in September, they failed to score a single goal.
Things have really improved since then, with Mauricio Pochettino’s men managing to score eight times in their last three Premier League fixtures.
Nevertheless, Pochettino will still have some concerns up front. Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja are both quite young and have had some fitness problems this season.

It is not a shock, then, to hear that Chelsea have an interest in Toney. The England international found the back of the net 20 times in the top flight last term. He could be a great signing for the Blues.
It is still a while before the January transfer window opens, though. Until then, hopefully Chelsea can continue to score goals.
In their 2-2 draw with Arsenal yesterday, it was probably their defending that cost them all three points. Robert Sanchez made a mistake for the Gunners’ first strike before Malo Gusto was caught napping for the second.
They had chances to make it 3-0, but you would not blame the forwards for the team’s failure to win the game this time.
