Chelsea’s ability to sign players in January has led to a debate about whether the club should make any additions. Some people believe that they need to make several signings to get to the top level once again, whereas others feel that bringing in an influx of new names would only rock the boat.
Former Chelsea defender Ashley Cole has recently had his say on the matter and believes that the club should aim to sign players in January. As reported by the Express, he said: ”I think every top club should improve if they can.

”Yes, I’ll probably assume that he won’t want to take out some young players but I think as a squad it definitely needs players added to it. But you don’t want to rock the boat maybe a little bit too much. So he wants to keep that consistency in certain players he has but he definitely for me has to add, yeah.”
It will be fascinating to see what action the club take in January. It is clear that Cole sees both sides of the coin – the merits and drawbacks of bringing in top European talent.
There is a chance that bringing in new players will upset the current dressing room, and cause rifts in what appears to be an extremely harmonious Chelsea camp.

However, the recent dip in form Lampard’s side has experienced cannot happen when the club is fighting for major trophies. Consistency is crucial in a top side and when injuries come into play, the replacements have to be good enough.
Lampard will look to find the balance between the two and continue his successful start as Chelsea manager.
