Atletico Madrid were interested in signing Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah but hit a bit of a stumbling block.

The reliable Fabrizio Romano has claimed on X that Atletico Madrid have discussed Trevoh Chalobah‘s name as they look to bring in a new defender before the transfer window closes.

However, according to the Italian journalist, they considered him too expensive in the end.

Football.london’s Bobby Vincent recently shared on The Si Phillips Talks Chelsea Podcast that the Blues want around £35m for the centre-back.

Chalobah is yet to play a game for Chelsea this season and that theme could continue even when he is back. The former England U21 international will have to oust Thiago Silva or Axel Disasi out of the team if he wants a starting spot, while Benoit Badiashile is another centre-half rival as well.

Trevoh Chalobah unlikely to leave Chelsea for Atletico Madrid

Chelsea’s price tag for Chalobah appears to have scared Atletico off.

A deal does not seem impossible, with a loan perhaps another option that could be considered. As of now, though, it looks like Chalobah will definitely not be joining Diego Simeone’s side.

It would be good for Chalobah if he could still find a new team, however. The former Chelsea academy player is at real risk of seeing very little game time if he remains at Stamford Bridge.

Again, even with injuries, central defence is not an area of the pitch where Mauricio Pochettino is lacking options.

At some point, it also looks like the Blues are going to buy a new centre-half, with Ousmane Diomande thought to be at the top of their list.

It would only push Chalobah further down the pecking order, which is why he should be looking to get out of Stamford Bridge, either now or in the summer.
