Ben Chilwell has raved about the quality of Brentford’s Ivan Toney, who’s reportedly a player Chelsea want to sign this summer.

Ivan Toney, 27, is a top-quality striker in fantastic form this season, scoring 17 goals in 26 games across all competitions.

Journalist Simon Phillips recently told GiveMeSport that Chelsea really like Brentford forward Toney. In fact, he’s a “strong candidate” when it comes to summer transfer targets for Graham Potter’s side.

Chelsea defender Chilwell, who’s training alongside Toney right now in the England camp, is full of praise for his international teammate.

“He’s (Toney) having a brilliant season. He’s playing very well for Brentford, scoring a lot of goals. As someone to come up against as a player, he’s obviously a handful,” Chilwell said on Tuesday, as quoted by talkSPORT.

“He’s a very physical player, but technically very good as well. In front of goal, he’s potent, he scores a lot of goals, he’s a great penalty taker, and we’re very lucky he’s here with us.”

Jason Cundy thinks Toney already looks like a Chelsea striker when you study him as a player.

There is a lot to admire about what he’s done during the past 18 months with Brentford, proving himself as a consistent goalscorer at Premier League level.

As he enters the peak years of his career, you can definitely see why one of the big clubs in England may be prepared to invest in him.

His valuation was quoted at £40million last summer by iNews, but how much would the Bees demand for him now?

It’s very interesting to note Chilwell’s description of Toney as “technically very good.”

Most think of the Brentford No.9 as being a real powerhouse, who bullies defenders with his size and strength. His ability with the ball at his feet is an underrated part of his game, though.

Could he finally be the right profile to end Chelsea’s striker curse?
