Liverpool icon Dietmar Hamann has named reported Chelsea transfer target Kai Havertz as the best talent in Germany at the moment.
Chelsea could abandon their pursuit of Philippe Coutinho in favour of Bayer Leverkusen’s Havertz, according to a report from The Athletic.
Having netted six times and further assisted five from 22 Bundesliga appearance, it is clear why the 20-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best talents in Germany.
Anfield hero “Didi” Hamann has said Havertz is a reminiscence of former Chelsea midfielder Ballack.

Asked about Germany’s most talented player, Hamann told Sky Sports’ Football Show (as quoted by the Metro): “The one player who stands out for me is Kai Havertz from Leverkusen
“He’s an exceptional player, he reminds me of a young Michael Ballack.
“He’s got that air of arrogance in a good way about him. He’s two-footed, he’s tall, he’s good in the air, he’s very versatile.
“He can play across the front, he can play any position. I think he’s the best player we’ve got in Germany at the moment.
“There’s talk about Timo Werner going to England, obviously, he’s a different player, but Havertz is the one I’d be looking at.”

Ballack is arguably one of the best signings for the Blues in the Roman Abramovich era.
Joining Chelsea on a free transfer in 2016, the former Germany international helped Chelsea win the Premier League, the FA Cup and the League Cup.
Although Havertz has a more attacking mindset compared to Chelsea’s Ballack, they both have the versatility and the ambidexterity invaluable for midfielders.
There is little doubt that Havertz would be a major addition to Frank Lampard’s squad. But whether Chelsea would pay the €100million (£90m) Leverkusen are demanding (according to Leverkusen manager Peter Bosz’s interview with AD) is another story.
