Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke insisted that they are planning to keep Erling Haaland beyond this summer but might listen to offers for Chelsea-linked Jadon Sancho.
A report from Sunday World in February claims that Chelsea are in the race to sign both Dortmund stars this summer.
Chelsea are more interested in Haaland, the report suggested, but given the competition to sign the Norway international and Dortmund chief’s recent admission, Sancho seems to be a more feasible target.
Speaking to DAZN and Goal, Watzke said: “We do not have a parallel plan. We will discuss this with Erling, his father and his agent Mino Raiola
“We also want him to be happy to stay with us, to score goals for BVB next year with conviction. There is no alternative plan.”
He added that they will also talk to Sancho but hinted at a possibility that the England international could leave this summer.
“If there is an exceptional offer we will discuss it with the player and the agent, as always,” Watzke explained.
“Nonetheless, I am very sure that the transfer market will only run to a very limited extent this summer.”
It is unclear how “exceptional” an offer Watzke was referring to, but Dortmund might face financial issues if they miss out on Champions League spots this season and it could influence Sancho’s price tag.
Obviously, a top striker like Haaland should be Chelsea’s priority.
However, if they decide to offload, for example, Christian Pulisic who has been struggling with injuries, Sancho seems to be a very good replacement.
