Borussia Dortmund seem to be fans of the players Chelsea are currently producing.

The Champions League finalists signed Ian Maatsen from Chelsea on loan during the January transfer window.

The left-back has been a bit of a revelation for Dortmund since arriving there, recently helping Edin Terzic’s side to knock Paris Saint-Germain out of the Champions League semi-finals.

He has made 20 appearances for them, scored two goals and provided two assists. It is a pretty good record for a full-back, with one of his strikes coming in Europe’s elite competition.

Dortmund could now look to sign Maatsen permanently, but he is not the only Chelsea academy graduate who they seem to like.

Borussia Dortmund want to sign another player who has come through at Cobham

There are a lot of former Chelsea academy players scattered around the Premier League today.

Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi and Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall are just a couple of examples.

Hall joined Newcastle from Chelsea last summer in a loan deal with an obligation to buy, with the obligation being based on certain conditions being met.

While the 19-year-old has not been at St James’ Park for long, it looks like he could already be on the move.

According to GiveMeSport, Dortmund have earmarked Hall as a potential target and are now considering whether they should try and bring him in.

Should Chelsea have kept Lewis Hall?

Right now, you can say yes. But at the time they let him go, it was not that simple.

Maatsen was still at the club, so Mauricio Pochettino had the Dutchman, Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella all for the left-back position.

Levi Colwill eventually became the first choice in that position, so there would have been a lot of competition for the English youngster.

After all of the expensive new signings they have made recently, Chelsea have been trying to make money back as well. Ultimately, you can see some sense in allowing Hall to go.
