Brendan Rodgers explains his Fofana decision amid reported Chelsea interest

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers said Wesley Fofana has been left out of the squad for Saturday’s fixture against Southampton for not being in the “right frame of mind” amid Chelsea’s reported transfer interest.

As expected, the 21-year-old has not been picked for the weekend’s match despite being one of the club’s best players.

It is a risky decision from Rodgers, obviously, considering Leicester are still without a win from the opening two games, but this also suggests that the player wants to leave, as widely reported.

“One is a change of system,” the manager said about Fofana’s absence and Youri Tielemans’ not making the starting line-up during a pre-match interview (via Football Daily).

“And two, I mentioned during the week, when a player is maybe not in the quite right frame of mind, you can’t carry them, we certainly can’t.”

Things do not necessarily get easier for Chelsea, who still have to reach an agreement with Leicester over a transfer fee, however.

An earlier report from Sky Sports claimed that Fofana is increasingly frustrated that Leicester are demanding a world-record fee for a defender after rejecting two bids worth over £60million from the west London club.

This is likely the last hurdle of the proposed move since the French centre-back himself has reportedly agreed a six-year deal with Chelsea on personal terms.
