Graeme Souness has criticised Chelsea target Adrien Rabiot for a weakness he’s shown in his game at the World Cup.

Rabiot, 27, has been a key player so far in the World Cup tournament for reigning champions France.

The left-footed central midfielder has worked tirelessly in the team’s engine room and you suspect he’ll have a big job on his hands in Saturday’s quarter-final against England.

He’s important in the centre of the park for his club side Juventus, something he’s carrying over to the international stage.

Graeme Souness criticised Adrien Rabiot

Despite a decent World Cup campaign from Rabiot, Souness has spotted a potential frailty in his game.

He explains he’s noticed him “ball-watching” on a couple of occasions.

“I think England can exploit a defensive vulnerability in France. I was working on the France v Denmark game for ITV and Adrien Rabiot was twice caught ball-watching for the Danish goal — once in the build-up that led to a corner and again when that corner came in,” Souness wrote for the Daily Mail.

Any mistake in this World Cup showdown between England and France is likely to be punished, so expect everyone on that pitch to be 100 per cent switched on.

Chelsea are actually linked with a move for Juventus man Rabiot, who’s built up his reputation in recent years as a highly-rated midfielder across Europe.

Calciomeracto reports that Chelsea are interested in Rabiot and are willing to match his wage demands.

If he’s fit and firing, he could definitely be a big help to Graham Potter’s squad at Stamford Bridge.

His lack of consistency should perhaps be the biggest dark cloud around him, though.
