French journalist Julien Laurens has told Rio Ferdinand’s FIVE podcast that Chelsea are very serious contenders in the race to sign Kylian Mbappe.
The forward sent shockwaves across Europe two days ago when rumours began to spread that he wanted to leave PSG as soon as possible.
This is despite a summer which saw him sign a new contract with the club, one which gave him a number of benefits in the French capital.

However, it has been claimed that a number of those benefits, including a say in some of the transfers that occur at the club have not been kept.
His importance to the PSG side has mirrored the reliance on him for the French national team, with international teammate N’golo Kante describing him as ‘very good.’
If he ends up leaving the French champions, Laurens has claimed that the ambition of owner Todd Boehly puts Chelsea in a great position to get a deal done.
Chelsea serious contenders for Mbappe
He said: “Liverpool, which is a club that Kylian really likes, they can’t afford him right now. They can’t pay that money, and this is not a position that they want to strengthen, that they need to strengthen. It’s the midfield that they’re looking at players right now. So, no Liverpool.
“I think Chelsea is a very serious contender. Because we know that Todd Boehly wants the big names, wants the headlines, wants the superstars. Hence why he wanted to sign Cristiano Ronaldo. Mbappe ticks a lot of the boxes that Todd Boehly wants and certainly they would have the money to sign someone like him.”

Boehly’s desire to sign Ronaldo was only stunted by Thomas Tuchel, who was against the idea of the superstar at Stamford Bridge.
With the German no longer in the way, the American could push for another superstar next year, with Mbappe potentially available.
The Blues are already close to finalising a deal to sign RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku this summer, and adding his France teammate to the mix would sure create a devastating attack in West London.
