Cesc Fabregas has claimed on Twitter that Chelsea have made a great signing in defender Benoit Badiashile.

The club yesterday confirmed the news that they had signed the 21-year-old on a staggering seven-and-a-half-year deal from AS Monaco.

The Frenchman is their second addition already this month, after the signing of striker David Datro Fofana from Molde.

And former midfield Fabregas has taken to Twitter to praise Chelsea for the signing, whilst also wishing the best for a former teammate.

He said: “What a signing. Good luck my friend.”

The Blues invested heavily in their defence last summer, after first team stars Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen left following their contracts ending.

Despite the additions of Kalidou Koulibaly, Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella, the backline has been nowhere near as secure as Graham Potter would have liked.

Recently their shakiness was on full display in the match against Nottingham Forest, where the Senegal international in particular looked to be struggling with the pace of their frontline.

Potter’s comments after the defeat to Manchester City last night suggested that Badiashile will be coming straight into the first team, shutting the door on any rumours that he may be loaned out for the remainder of the campaign.

With defensive instabilities obvious to see, and a fixture list looking as congested as ever in the next few months, it can be expected that the Frenchman will make his debut for the club very soon.

Standing at 6”4, Badiashile will certainly be bringing a physical presence with him to the Premier League.

He will arrive at Chelsea with plenty of first team experience both domestically and in Europe already under his belt.

He played 135 games for the Monaco first team, making more than 100 appearances in Ligue 1 despite being just 21.

Badiashile is also a France international, making the first of his two appearances for the national team in September last year.
