Chelsea have recalled midfielder Conor Gallagher from his loan spell in the Championship – and some Charlton Athletic fans on Twitter are devastated to see him leave them midway through the season.
Charlton confirmed (official website) on Tuesday that the 19-year-old has returned to Stamford Bridge after a successful loan with them, which was meant to be for the entire season.
The England Under-21 international has been a mainstay in the Charlton team and managed six goals in 26 appearances for them this campaign
Football.London have reported that Gallagher will now head out on a fresh loan for the second half of the season.
It seems a bizarre decision from Chelsea to disrupt the deep-lying playmaker during a loan where he was earning regular minutes and developing his game, but they have clearly spotted something.
Charlton are 19th-placed in the Championship table and perhaps Frank Lampard’s side feel he could continue improving at a higher level.
There is no doubt that the central midfielder has got the potential to follow in the shoes of previous Blues academy graduates and break into the first-team squad, especially with Lampard promoting youth right now.
