People within Manchester City never imagined Cole Palmer would be sold this summer ahead of his imminent move to Chelsea.
That is according to a report from The Athletic.
They claim that Man City winger Cole Palmer, 21, is about to sign for Chelsea today in a deal worth upwards of £40million.
It is explained that very few club insiders at the Etihad Stadium could have ever pictured the England Under-21 international leaving during this summer transfer window.
The report says that Man City eventually warmed to the idea of selling him as the player expressed his desire to leave, though.
Speaking via talkSPORT yesterday, Gabriel Agbonlahor claimed Palmer is going to walk straight into the Chelsea starting line-up.
The 21-year-old attacker is joining a very young group at Stamford Bridge and should be confident of regular minutes under Mauricio Pochettino.

This deal did come from nowhere in the final days of the window and has taken supporter by surprise.
