Chelsea and Arsenal are both expected to be in the race to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney in January.

That is according to a report from the Daily Mirror.

It claims that Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are all likely to be in the mix for Ivan Toney‘s signature when the transfer window reopens, with Brentford thought to want £60m minimum for their talisman.

Interest in Toney from three of English football’s biggest clubs comes as no surprise, as the 27-year-old has really proved himself in the Premier League.

Last season, he scored 20 goals in 33 top-flight appearances.

Chelsea have to beat Arsenal and Tottenham to Ivan Toney’s signature

This is one transfer battle that Chelsea cannot afford to lose. Toney looks like he could be a solution to the team’s biggest problem right now: scoring goals.

In the five Premier League games Mauricio Pochettino’s side have played this season, they have netted just five times.

Scoring at that rate, they are not going to get anywhere. It is why it is so important that a centre-forward like Toney is brought in.

The Blues currently have Nicolas Jackson and perhaps the Senegal international will improve as the campaign goes on. He has scored just once for his new side so far.

However, Toney is just a great opportunity for Chelsea, especially if the Brentford man is only going to cost £60m, which is not crazy money for a proven forward in this current market.

To watch him join Arsenal or Tottenham in January would be a sickening blow.
