Chelsea are firmly in the race this summer to sign Southampton’s Romeo Lavia, according to reports.
Romeo Lavia, who’s just 19, did his reputation no harm this season after a first-team breakthrough at St Mary’s.
Despite Southampton suffering relegation from the Premier League, the Belgium teenager introduced himself to a big audience as an all-action defensive midfielder.
Now, he’s linked with a high-profile transfer in the summer window.

Well-respected journalist Simon Phillips has claimed on his Substack that Chelsea are “seriously considering” making an offer this summer to sign Lavia.
Interestingly, he adds that the Blues are not put off by Southampton’s £50million valuation.
However, Mauricio Pochettino’s side are “likely” to end their interest if he costs any more than £50million.

Chelsea desperately need reinforcements in defensive midfield this summer, so we’re delighted to hear this Lavia update.
We’ve got question marks over whether or not he’s ready to start every game yet in a Chelsea XI, but he would make a superb addition to the squad next season.
The Blues are right not to go north of £50million, though!
Lavia is a proper No 6 that defends well with positive tackle and interceptions. The youngster covers a lot of ground with his athleticism, too.
Our view is that Lavia could be a really shrewd addition to the side Pochettino wants to build in west London.
