Chelsea have been heavily linked with a potential move to sign one striker, and they’re now ‘optimistic’ that he would choose to make the switch to Stamford Bridge.
In terms of the current Chelsea squad, they’re crying out for some more experience at the top end of the pitch. Nicolas Jackson does a decent job as the frontline centre-forward, while youngster Marc Guiu is the understudy, but they simply need more firepower.
Even though Pedro Neto has enjoyed covering at striker during an injury crisis for the Blues, they must find a top-class No 9 if they’re to kick on next season.
Alan Shearer claims Chelsea lack a top-class frontman despite all the investment from the Blues owners.

Chelsea confident that Liam Delap would pick them
Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, 22, has been a popular name in the transfer rumour mill because of his impressive individual season so far. Even though Ipswich are struggling in the Premier League relegation zone, he’s still scored 10 top-flight goals this campaign.
According to GiveMeSport, Chelsea do have Ipswich youngster Delap on their radar as they search the market for strikers.
The report claims the Blues are ‘optimistic’ that the Englishman frontman would choose to join them if they proceed with a swoop.
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca keeps mentioning Delap during transfer meetings, so a lot points towards him possibly being the newest centre-forward to play at Stamford Bridge.
However, GiveMeSport previously claimed that Manchester United think £50m-rated Delap is a more realistic transfer target for them this summer than Victor Osimhen.

Liam Delap isn’t the finished article and is behind Nicolas Jackson in key statistic
It’s pretty evident that the Ipswich forward is still a work in progress as the youngster develops his game. In fact, Chelsea supporters criticised Delap after his recent performance against Manchester United.
| Player | Appearances | Goals | Shots on target % |
| Liam Delap | 26 | 10 | 44.9% |
| Nicolas Jackson | 23 | 9 | 47.6% |
As you can see above, Delap’s shots on target percentage in the Premier League is lower than Chelsea’s Jackson this season.
It’s not a stat that will fill Blues supporters with any kind of confidence.
The main aim for Enzo Maresca’s side should be to bring in a proven goalscorer for next season who’s more clinical than Jackson.
