Chelsea are using the World Cup as an opportunity to look at players, including one from their fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Right now, most of the talk surrounding Chelsea this summer so far has been about outgoings.

The Blues recently sold Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid, and Enzo Fernandez could be about to join him at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, Xabi Alonso is almost certain to add to his squad before the transfer window closes in September.

They’ve both made good starts to the World Cup, but who do you prefer: Noni Madueke or Pedro Neto?

Chelsea scouting Lucas Bergvall

One player Chelsea could try to sign before September’s deadline is Tottenham and Sweden midfielder Lucas Bergvall.

Journalist Simon Phillips has revealed on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea that the Blues are scouting Bergvall at this year’s World Cup.

According to Phillips, there is a belief that Bergvall would be open to a move away from north London this summer, but whether Tottenham would be willing to sell to Chelsea remains to be seen.

The Sweden international has been on Chelsea’s radar for a while now. In February, it was claimed that Chelsea tried to sign Bergvall in the winter transfer window and even presented him with a contract offer.

He made 33 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions last season as Roberto De Zerbi’s side just about managed to escape relegation.

How Lucas Bergvall got on in Sweden’s World Cup opener

Bergvall was a second-half substitute in Sweden’s first World Cup game against Tunisia, which they won 5-1.

The 20-year-old did not see too much of the ball, making just six passes in his cameo, as per Sofascore. However, he did manage to register an assist and one key pass.

Bergvall has some talent, but not too many Chelsea fans will be convinced about signing him when they need more experienced players and possibly a midfielder who is similar to Fernandez to potentially replace the Argentine. Bergvall is neither of those things.

Ultimately, Chelsea should probably be looking at different midfielders at this tournament.
