It’s already been a busy summer for recruitment at Chelsea, and they’ve now enquired about signing a high-profile footballer.

Currently, Chelsea will enter the 2025/26 season with a very talented squad that they’ve assembled. They certainly look stronger following the additions of players such as Joao Pedro, Jorrel Hato, Liam Delap and Estevao Willian at Stamford Bridge.

Ally McCoist tips Chelsea to finish third in the new Premier League campaign.

However, there is still time for Enzo Maresca’s side to make some more signings before the transfer window closes on 1 September. The speculation in the rumour mill definitely points towards more business for the Blues.

Chelsea make enquiry for Gianluigi Donnarumma

The future of Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, 26, has been a huge talking point in this transfer window.

According to RMC Sport, PSG have informed Donnarumma that he’s no longer their starting keeper following the arrival of Lucas Chevalier from Lille.

It is explained that Donnarumma will only exit Paris, where he’s got one year left on his contract, if he finds the right project to join. Apparently, Chelsea and Manchester United have enquired about the goalkeeper’s situation ‘in recent hours’, but there’s been no bid submitted yet.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed via X that Donnarumma will 100% leave the French giants in this summer window.

Back in July, Donnarumma was on Chelsea’s radar ahead of the Club World Cup, where the Blues shocked everyone to beat PSG 3-0 in the final.

In terms of Donnarumma’s, he’s cemented himself as an elite goalkeeper across recent years. The Italy international has achieved so much at the age of 26, too.

What Antonio Conte said about Gianluigi Donnarumma in 2021

Antonio Conte, the former Chelsea boss, once delivered immense praise on Donnarumma.

Back in 2021, Conte said via The Telegraph: “Donnarumma, I think in this moment and in the future will be one of the best goalkeepers in the world because he is a complete player,” Conte says. “He’s good with his feet, he has the personality to go out and to take the ball and to help the defenders. He is a fantastic goalkeeper.”

In fairness, Donnarumma has definitely lived up to the hype as one of the world’s best shot-stoppers, so it’s quite remarkable that he’s available in the current market.

Jamie Carragher insists Chelsea won’t win the Premier League until they sign a new world-class goalkeeper. Could 6ft 5in colossus Donnarumma be that man?
