Michael Olise was tempted to sign for Chelsea this summer before penning a new contract with Crystal Palace.

That is according to The Athletic.

So, what is the latest on Michael Olise and Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Crystal Palace No.7 and Chelsea were involved in one of the most dramatic sagas of the summer just a matter of days ago.

Some of the best sources around – including Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein – claimed that Olise was heading to Stamford Bridge after Chelsea triggered his £35m release clause.

However – in a shock twist – Crystal Palace Chairman Steve Parish announced that the winger had signed a new contract on Instagram, just as everyone expected him to head to west London for a medical.

Now – thanks to The Athletic – further details have been shared on this situation.

It is said that Olise was actually tempted to join Chelsea, and the Blues were looking to offer the 21-year-old a contract running for eight years.

However, the France Under-21 international eventually chose to sign a new four-year deal at Crystal Palace, where he will receive £80,000-a-week.

Chelsea need someone like Olise

In Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to West Ham, the likes of Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke struggled to help the Blues mount any sort of comeback throughout the second half.

In truth, the pair were easy to read for West Ham’s backline.

Not to pin the loss on them, but Madueke and Mudryk were a bit predictable, and Mauricio Pochettino absolutely could have done with a more incisive, creative forward such as Olise.

Carney Chukwuemeka was causing the east Londoners all sorts of problems by picking the ball up in between the lines on the left, and Chelsea seemingly need a similar player to do just that on the right flank like Olise can.

Be sure to keep an eye on developments at Chelsea, as the Blues are still expected to be active in the market before transfer deadline day.
