Chelsea are still considering signing Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries.

According to Calciomercatoweb, Denzel Dumfries actually came close to joining Chelsea during the summer and the Blues are still thinking about recruiting the right-back.

Calciomercato reported towards the end of last year that Inter valued Dumfries at around €60m (£52m).

Chelsea currently have Reece James, their captain, and Malo Gusto for the right-back position, while Marc Cucurella has also played there in the Blues’ last few fixtures.

However, James has struggled to stay fit this season and has only featured in one game, the 1-1 draw with Liverpool at the beginning of the campaign.

Chelsea can move on from Denzel Dumfries

Dumfries is a good right-back and would probably fit in at Chelsea well, especially when the Blues want to play with a back three.

This term, the 27-year-old has already come up with four goal contributions in seven Serie A appearances. Simply put, he looks like the perfect wing-back.

However, Chelsea have James and recently bought Gusto from Lyon. Considering that, we do not think Dumfries needs to be a priority for Mauricio Pochettino, unless James continues to pick up injuries.

We would be surprised to see Chelsea make a move for Dumfries in 2024 and expect a new striker to be the club’s priority, for example.

Chelsea are interested in Napoli’s Victor Osimhen; you suspect they will be spending their time chasing a centre-forward like the Nigeria international.

Pochettino’s side were able to put four past Burnley last time out, but scoring goals has not always been easy for them this season. In home games against Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, they could not find the back of the net.

Since then, things have improved, but that may not stop them from entering the market for a new No.9.
