Report: Chelsea keen on Petr Cech or Kasper Schmeichel if Thibaut Courtois leaves
Chelsea will reportedly consider Arsenal’s Petr Cech or Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel if they lose goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois this summer.
According to Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws, 26-year-old Courtois is is close to signing for Spanish giants Real Madrid and that he has already agreed a five-year contract with them.
It is understood that the Blues shot-stopper is now waiting for confirmation that his side have accepted Madrid’s £35million offer and his exit is growing closer with just one year remaining on his current deal at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea will need to go into the market for a new number one if Courtois’ exit is sealed and two Premier League options may be on the radar of manager Maurizio Sarri.
Cech and Schmeichel are potential Courtois replacements for the London club, according to Sky Sports.
Chelsea may reportedly plot to re-sign club legend Cech this summer, who previously won four Premier League titles and a Champions League with the Blues.
The 36-year-old is likely to see his Arsenal position come under threat following the signing of Bernd Leno and a potential return to the Stamford Bridge could be on the cards.
Meanwhile, Chelsea could make another raid on Premier League rivals Leicester after previously snapping up N’Golo Kante and Danny Drinkwater from them in the past.
Schmeichel, 31, enjoyed a brilliant World Cup with Denmark and previously helped the Foxes with the domestic league crown in the 2015/16 season.
