AFC Wimbledon have confirmed a transfer agreement has been reached for 14-year-old Leo Castledine.

Castledine, who has been at the club since the age of seven, will be joining Chelsea for an undisclosed fee.

AFC Wimbledon Academy Manager Michael Hamilton told the club’s official site: “Naturally, we are very disappointed to lose Leo, but we wish him every success in the future and will be monitoring his progress.

“Leo’s development is down to not only his hard work and application, but also to all the staff here behind the scenes, so I’d like to acknowledge James, Rob and anyone else who has played a part in this young man’s journey.”

The England U15 international plays in midfield, although he started in a more defensive role.

He was the youngest player to feature in AFC Wimbledon U18s, making his debut last summer.

Castledine posted a picture of him with a Chelsea logo on the backdrop of Instagram on Tuesday.

The caption says: “Very excited to say that I have signed for Chelsea FC today.

“My time at AFC Wimbledon was amazing and I can’t thank them enough, however, it’s time for a new chapter.”
