There’s a player in the Chelsea squad whose future is now in question, but the club strongly believe his valuation has gone up in the last 12 months.
Despite it being another season at Chelsea without a trophy last year, there’s some individuals that enhanced their own reputations.
For example, Blues and England attacker Cole Palmer, 22, is the obvious star that elevated his game to new heights during the previous campaign. According to CIES Football Observatory, Palmer’s valuation has increased by £60m because of a remarkable debut year in West London.
It’s now been reported elsewhere that one of Palmer’s teammates has shot up in valuation. At least, that’s what the club thinks.

Chelsea believe Djordje Petrovic’s valuation has increased
According to The Athletic, Chelsea are ‘confident’ that the valuation of Djordje Petrovic has gone up in the last year. This comes after the Serbian goalkeeper joined the Blues in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth £14m (Sky Sports).
It is explained that the future of Petrovic has actually been thrown into question amid interest from several clubs.
This comes because Villarreal keeper Filip Jorgensen, 22, is strongly tipped to be arriving soon at Stamford Bridge. It was claimed by journalist Fabrizio Romano via X that Jorgensen underwent a Chelsea medical on Monday.
It means there’s uncertainty surrounding the future of Petrovic, who finished last season as Chelsea’s number one in-between the sticks.
Has Djordje Petrovic been harshly treated?
Petrovic had a solid first year at Chelsea last season, keeping seven clean sheets in 31 matches across all competitions. He certainly justified his starting position ahead of Robert Sanchez over the course of the campaign.
However, The Telegraph recently reported that Petrovic’s Chelsea future is in doubt, with Sanchez in line to start the season as the starting gloveman.
It may be fair enough to move on Petrovic if the club don’t think he can play out from the back like the new head coach wants. There’s not been much to suggest Sanchez is miles better in that particular department, though.
