Chelsea could be tempted to make late swoop for ‘remarkable’ player, his price tag has been cut by £25m

Chelsea have just been linked with a potential move to sign a Premier League star whose valuation has significantly dropped this summer.

It’s been a wild transfer window so far around Stamford Bridge, with plenty of incomings and outgoings. There’s still 10 days left for the Blues to conduct more business, too.

Let’s hope Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca is happy with his squad by the time the window closes, and that all the drama around the club is sorted.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Blues sign another centre-forward. Journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed a few days ago via X that Chelsea are planning a late move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. There’s fresh rumours suggesting a Premier League frontman may still be on their radar, though.

Chelsea could yet make Ivan Toney move

According to The Sun, Chelsea could be tempted to make a ‘late swoop’ for Brentford’s Ivan Toney this summer.

It is explained that Brentford want to get the 28-year-old sold this week after leaving him out of their squad for the opening weekend of the Premier League. Apparently, they valued him at £70m at the start of the transfer window, but that price tag has lowered by £25m because they’d now accept around £45m for his sale.

The report states that Chelsea are the only Premier League side that remain in the hunt for the centre-forward, and the player himself would prefer to stay in England if possible.

There’s widespread reports linking the Brentford ace with a potential switch to Saudi Arabia, though.

The Guardian claims that Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli are weighing up an improved bid for Toney. This comes after their opening £35m offer was rejected by Brentford.

Should the Blues go for Ivan Toney?

Toney’s name has been linked with Chelsea throughout the summer months, so it’s interesting that it’s popped up again so close to the deadline.

On paper, Toney could be a superb fit for the Blues. He’s a proven goalscorer in England’s top division and is entering the prime years of his career. If he’s available for £45m, that could be a potential bargain as well.

Described as “remarkable” by Thomas Frank via Brentford’s official website, Toney would be a great option for Chelsea if they decide to ramp up their transfer interest.
