Chelsea could now submit a second bid to sign Aurelien Tchouameni from Real Madrid after seeing a first offer rejected.

That is according to SPORT in Spain.

So, what is the latest on Chelsea and Aurelien Tchouameni? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Spanish news outlet explain how Chelsea saw an initial €60m (£52m) bid for the France international rejected by Real Madrid.

However, Chelsea are now considering a second offer worth £69m – roughly the same sum Real Madrid handed over to Monaco when signing Tchouameni back in June 2022.

SPORT believe this second bid – if it is made – would be taken more seriously, as Real Madrid were left underwhelmed by the Frenchman last season after he failed to follow in Casemiro’s footsteps.

The Spanish giants have also just signed Jude Bellingham – who operates in the same position as Tchouameni.

SPORT interestingly add that Mauricio Pochettino values the 23-year-old’s qualities and has asked Chelsea to make a genuine effort to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are in need of more midfield depth after losing N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic to Al-Ittihad and Manchester City respectively.

What Tchouameni could bring to Chelsea

In our view, this would be a fantastic signing by Chelsea if it materialises – the Blues seemingly sense a real opportunity to pinch a top prospect who usually wouldn’t be on the market just 12 months after a move.

Tchouameni has been described as a “very fast and physically strong” midfielder who is similar to Steven Gerrard by Paul Mitchell, who was Director of Football at Monaco while the France international played for the Ligue 1 outfit.

It also speaks volumes that Real Madrid felt he was capable of replacing Casemiro – one of the best midfielders of the past decade.

In terms of playing style, some at Chelsea feel Tchouameni is similar to Enzo Fernandez – according to Dean Jones.
