Chelsea could face battle with Tottenham for £60m striker

Chelsea may have to be wary of London rivals Tottenham Hotspur if they decide to go after one striker this summer.

Chelsea remain in the transfer market for a centre-forward and have been linked with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. However, they could miss out on the 25-year-old to Paris Saint-Germain.

Osimhen’s given PSG the green light ahead of a potential move to the Parc des Princes this summer in a potential blow to the Blues.

There are alternatives for Enzo Maresca and Chelsea, such as Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres, but Tottenham could swoop for him if the price is right it seems.

Tottenham and Chelsea both interested in Viktor Gyokeres

Chelsea could sign Gyokeres for £60m this summer, which is lower than his release clause.

If he is available for around that price, though, it looks like Tottenham would also be interested in his signature.

According to GiveMeSport, Spurs could make a move for Gyokeres if they are given assurances that the Sporting forward will cost less than his £84m release clause.

It would not be a surprise, however, if Sporting held out for the full amount of money given how important he is to their team. Last season, the 26-year-old scored an incredible 43 goals in 50 appearances.

Who needs Viktor Gyokeres more, Chelsea or Tottenham?

After finishing last season with Nicolas Jackson as the only recognised centre-forward in their squad, Chelsea and their new manager Maresca could probably do with someone like Gyokeres coming in.

Tottenham, however, have not quite replaced Harry Kane yet, often using Son Heung-min as a striker during the 2023/24 campaign.

Son is a goalscorer, but he is not exactly a natural No.9. It is quite hard to tell; Chelsea and Tottenham both probably need Gyokeres as much as the other does to qualify for the Champions League.

That will be the ultimate aim for the two London clubs this upcoming season, and Gyokeres may be able to help one of them with that.
