Chelsea could now sign Robert Sanchez from Brighton for just £20m as Mauricio Pochettino searches for a new goalkeeper.

That is according to Nathan Gissing – writing on Gianluca Di Marzio’s website.

So, what is the latest on Chelsea target Robert Sanchez? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well – according to Fabrizio Romano – Chelsea have made a bid for the Spain international, after deciding that he was the most sensible option to pursue as competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

So far, a definitive asking price is yet to emerge – a story from the Daily Mail claimed that Brighton want £30m for their No.1 this summer, although Gissing has now suggested that this figure is wide of the mark.

The respected journalist instead claims that Sanchez could leave Brighton for just £20m this summer after losing his place under Roberto De Zerbi to Jason Steele, while further competition has now arrived in the form of Bart Verbruggen.

Romano added that the 25-year-old has already agreed to join Chelsea, and the Seagulls are hoping to offload him.

Therefore – if that £20m asking price is accurate – we would expect this deal to progress very quickly, with the above details taken into consideration.

£20m is a decent fee for Robert Sanchez as Chelsea close in

Nowadays, £20m is the new £10m, and Chelsea cannot expect to find a goalkeeper with similar Premier League experience for much less.

Sanchez – who Graham Potter once called “fantastic” – boasts 87 Premier League appearances to his name as well as international recognition with Spain, where he actually ousted David de Gea to earn his two caps so far.

Unfortunately, the Spaniard has simply ended up in De Zerbi’s bad books, although that doesn’t take away from the fact that he is still a solid goalkeeper, who is capable of providing serious competition to Kepa.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as we now expect Chelsea to sign Sanchez quite quickly.
