Chelsea may only have to spend £39m if they want to sign Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez.

In a recent column on Substack, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that €45m (£39m) could be enough to get a deal for Santiago Gimenez done.

The Italian journalist has also said after “speaking to direct sources”, the 22-year-old does not have an agent and is letting his father take care of his business, which could make life easier for interested clubs.

And Chelsea are one side who seem to have Gimenez on their radar.

According to 90min, the Blues have been scouting the No.9.

Santiago Gimenez a potential alternative to Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen

Right now, the two strikers who seem to be at the top of Chelsea’s list are Toney and Osimhen.

The Blues are expected to make a move for the former in January in their bid to improve their forward line.

Osimhen is also a forward who Chelsea could swoop for at some point in 2024, though you suspect it will be either the Nigerian or Toney if the club get yeses from both players.

If they do not, though, and cannot land either for whatever reason, then perhaps Gimenez could be a good alternative.

The Mexico international has really impressed in the Eredivisie this season, scoring 13 goals in just 10 appearances.

Some may have their doubts about Gimenez, with the Eredivisie not being as strong as the Premier League, for example. But right now, he looks like he could be worth a punt if Chelsea cannot get one of their main targets.

Should the club sign the Feyenoord man for £39m, which they may be able to based on what Romano is reporting, then he could be a bargain in this current market if he can transfer his Eredivisie form to the Premier League.
