Chelsea could now sign ‘world-class’ striker for just £40m

Chelsea or another Premier League club could potentially land a bargain this summer.

The Blues‘ current first-choice striker is Nicolas Jackson, and the 22-year-old has done pretty well at Stamford Bridge.

This season, Jackson has scored 14 goals in 33 Premier League appearances.

It is a good return, especially for someone who only arrived in England last summer. However, the Senegal international is the only recognised centre-forward in Mauricio Pochettino‘s squad right now, so Chelsea may need to sign another in the upcoming transfer window.

Gary Lineker thinks he has really improved as the season has gone on.

Chelsea could sign top centre-forward for £40m

Regarding strikers who Chelsea have been heavily linked with, Victor Osimhen’s name refuses to go away.

However, a much cheaper option than the Nigerian, who is believed to have a €130m (£111.6m) release clause in his contract, could be Brentford’s Ivan Toney.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, Chelsea have the 28-year-old on their list and he could be available for just £40m this summer.

On his Substack, he said: “Ivan Toney, also still on our list, I understand would be available for around £40m this summer — Brentford will likely push for a bit more.”

What has Thomas Frank said about Ivan Toney?

Toney has not been in the best form of late. He has actually not scored a goal since February.

When the England international is on it, though, he is obviously a devastating striker.

His manager Thomas Frank has described him as a “world-class player” and he was arguably around that level last season.

In 33 Premier League appearances, the Brentford star scored 20 goals.

There has not been too much talk about Chelsea signing Toney recently, but if the Blues fail to land Osimhen, then the former Peterborough United man would not be a bad alternative.
