Chelsea may now try to sign Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic as a result of Christopher Nkunku’s injury news.

That is according to a report from ESPN.

Chelsea confirmed on Tuesday via their official website that Blues attacker Christoper Nkunku, 25, is set for an ‘extended period’ on the sidelines with a knee injury.

The Frenchman was looking really sharp and impressive during Chelsea’s pre-season, but he’ll have to wait a while to make his competitive debut for the club.

As a result, Mauricio Pochettino’s may be able to make yet another new signing in this summer window.

ESPN claims that Chelsea may decide to ramp up interest in Juventus frontman Dusan Vlahovic because of Nkunku’s injury setback.

It is understood that the Blues are currently in discussions with Juventus about a possible swap deal for Vlahovic that involves Romelu Lukaku, but the negotiations are complicated and an agreement is some way off right now due to valuations.

Many expected Nkunku to be a big help when it comes to scoring goals, so his absence at the start of the campaign is a real body blow.

We love what we’ve seen from new striker Nicolas Jackson in pre-season at the start of his Chelsea career, but he’s still very much an emerging talent. In contrast, Vlahovic has a bit more on his CV as a 23-year-old centre-forward.

Sport Media Set reported this week that Chelsea are intensifying talks for Vlahovic after Pochettino decided he wanted him in his squad.

The Nkunku problem does serve to add further fuel to the fire.

Vlahovic has 23 goals in 63 Juventus games. This comes after 49 goals in 108 appearances for Serie A rivals Fiorentina.

He’s certainly like a like-for-like replacement for Nkunku on the pitch, but perhaps the Blues have a better chance of scoring more often with him involved.
