Report: Chelsea defender has verbal agreement with former manager over potential summer move
In-demand Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri has already had a verbal agreement with Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti over potential summer move, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Calciomercato).
The 26-year-old is now on the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea would understandably want to offload him this summer.
As it stands, Italy seems to be the likeliest destination for Emerson.
La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that at least three Serie A clubs are monitoring the full-back; Napoli, Inter Milan, and his former club, AS Roma.
The report suggests Napoli are in pole position thanks to the relationship between Emerson and their manager Spalletti.
Emerson arguably had his best season under Spalletti at Roma in 2016/17, before the ACL injury that forced him to miss the first three months of the following season.
The Italy international has even reportedly had a verbal agreement with Spalletti to join him at Napoli next season.
The report, however, also highlighted that Roma might find it difficult to meet Emerson’s current €4.5million (£3.86m) a-year salary.
