Curtis Jones has been linked with a surprise move to Chelsea in the January transfer window.
The Blues are in the market for a new midfielder after Dario Essugo picked up another injury in training.
The West London club are also interested in Douglas Luiz, but Jones would be a better fit for their model of signing young players.
Chelsea fans may be sceptical about the Liverpool man, but he has already given them a reason to love him.
Would Curtis Jones be a good signing for Chelsea? 👀
Chelsea are considering a late January move…
Chelsea fans will love Curtis Jones’ take on Eden Hazard
Curtis Jones made the headlines last January with his comments on the comparisons between Eden Hazard and Mohamed Salah.
The two Premier League legends are often involved in debates on social media, with biased Chelsea and Liverpool fans taking sides.
One would expect Jones, a boyhood Liverpool fan, to prefer Salah, but he actually rates Hazard as the better player.
“My one, and I know this might go a bit left with our fans because the comparisons [with Salah] are always there, is Hazard,” he told TNT Sports. “I know he’s compared with Mo all the time and I’ve been into it with Mo.
“I play it on who I’ve seen as a kid, from when I loved and studied the game and who I wanted to be like as a player. I feel like Hazard was the one who, every game I’d watch him, I would just be like ‘Wow that’s football’.”
The Liverpool midfielder added: “I wouldn’t say [Hazard is] disrespected but he might not come into certain talks that he should. [But] it’s the talk I’ve had with Mo and all the lads.
“As a footballer, is he better than Mo? In my opinion, yes. But who would you rather have in your team? You’re going to say Mo because he gets you the goals and assists.”
Chelsea fans were delighted with Jones’ words at the time, and they would surely resurface if he were to join the Blues this month.
Do Chelsea need a central midfielder this month?🤔
Curtis Jones would be a smart signing for Chelsea
There is a lot to like about Chelsea’s potential signing of Curtis Jones from Liverpool, starting with his age.
The 24-year-old would not be out of place among the Blues’ young squad, but he would also arrive with more experience than most.
Jones has won two Premier League titles and an FA Cup at Liverpool, so he knows what it takes to deliver in the biggest moments.
Plus, he would fill a significant void in Chelsea’s squad. As it stands, with the injuries to Essugo and Romeo Lavia, the Blues only have three recognised midfielders.
The Englishman would probably demand a wage of over £100,000 per week, but his transfer fee would not break the bank.
With only 18 months remaining on his contract, a fee in the region of £40 million seems reasonable.
