The World Cup is not just the highest source of footballing entertainment for fans, but it is a scouting pool for the club’s biggest sides, and Blues supporters want a Morocco star.

Eight games have now been played at the 2026 World Cup, and there have been a handful of surprise results. Qatar got a last-minute equaliser against Switzerland, and Australia beat Arda Guler’s Turkey.

Morocco starred at the 2022 World Cup, reaching the semi-finals, and it seems they could be a dark horse this time around, judging by their display against Brazil last night. They managed to secure a point.

Having taken the lead, Vinicius Jr. equalised for Brazil, and the scoreline remained. Morocco might have even felt they could have won the game, and one player stood out: Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi.

Chelsea fans want Ayyoub Bouaddi signed after Morocco outing

It was only his fourth appearance for Morocco, but 18-year-old Bouaddi was thrown in at the deep end against Brazil. He came up against Casemiro, Bruno Guimaraes and Lucas Paqueta, and yet, he starred.

Already, Bouaddi has played 96 times for Lille, and his potential was there for all to see against Brazil. The Blues have already been linked with Bouaddi, with reports in December saying a £44m bid was discussed.

Having watched Bouaddi shine against Brazil’s star-studded performance, Chelsea fans implored their club to get the Moroccan midfielder signed. One fan recalled the last time Chelsea signed a Lille player.

Chelsea have plenty of midfield options, but that could soon change. Dario Essugo may go on loan, while French side Monaco have bid for Romeo Lavia. Then there is Enzo Fernandez, who Real Madrid covet.

Bouaddi could be targeted, and scouts will be going wild after watching his display at the World Cup. Fans certainly are, with one Chelsea fan saying the Blues “must do everything they can to sign” Bouaddi.

There were plenty of “sign him up” comments from Chelsea fans on social media, while another said they’d sign Bouaddi as a replacement for Lavia “in a heartbeat”. Another said he is the “perfect signing”.

Bouaddi would make history if he joined Chelsea

Three years remain on Bouaddi’s Lille contract. The midfielder is already renowned as one of Ligue 1’s best young players, and Chelsea clearly have him on their radar. Lille know they can get a big fee.

Especially given the social media hype surrounding his performance against Brazil. If he was worth £44m in January, it is easy to imagine that fee has increased sharply after his first World Cup appearance.

If Bouaddi did end up at Chelsea, he would be the club’s second-only Moroccan to play for the Blues. The other? Perhaps the Moroccan player everyone looks up to, in former Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech.
