Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour has been linked with a possible loan exit in January – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter have responded by claiming that they don’t want him leaving Stamford Bridge.

The Scottish Sun reports that Rangers are keen on trying to sign the highly-rated teenager on a temporary basis next month.

It is explained that Blues manager Frank Lampard would consider ending the 19-year-old out on loan.

Gilmour, who joined Chelsea from Rangers back in 2017 as a promising talent, could now be offered a route to Ibrox to play regular first-team action.

The Scotland international has recently returned from a knee problem and made back-to-back appearances in the Champions League, but it’s going to be a big ask to break into the starting XI on a regular basis.

He’s a central midfielder that can play a deep-lying position breaking up play, but has the qualities to play in a box-to-box role too and he’s got the ability to put pressure on individuals above him in the pecking order.

Lampard will need to assess his situation when the January window opens and it’s crucial Chelsea get it right when it comes to the youngster’s development in the next couple of years.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media are against the idea of sending Gilmour out on loan, as they feel he should be kept with the squad and feel he’s got a role to play this season.
