Chelsea have reportedly started talks with defender Thiago Silva about his future – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter are excited about the possibility of him penning a new deal.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Blues are already in discussions with the centre-back’s representatives about extending his contract until 2022.

The 36-year-old signed a one-year deal when he joined in the summer following his release from Paris Saint-Germain, but a quick start to life at Stamford Bridge could see him extend his stay for another season.

It is understood that they could look to wrap the deal quickly and it could be completed imminently.

Aged 36, there were some reservations when Chelsea signed experienced defender Silva in the summer window and it was always going to be a big task moving to the Premier League so late in his career.

But the Brazilian centre-half has made it look easy for the most part and the entire backline has looked much stronger with him at the heart of it.

Blues boss Frank Lampard is managing his minutes sensibly and he’s become a key player already.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media are delighted with the Silva reports, suggesting it’s a great move by the club:
